Bangladesh is now the world’s second biggest exporter of garments, with the industry responsible for 84% of the country’s overall export revenues. Bangladesh’s fashion sector is now worth $25 billion. Garment exports increased 13% to $31.5 billion in 2020/21 from the previous year, due to a 21% increase in foreign sales of knitwear items like t-shirts and sweaters but were still 7% lower than the pre-pandemic period of the 2018-19 fiscal years, according to the Export Promotion Bureau.
